SRT to VTT converter

Turns SRT subtitles into WebVTT, and WebVTT back into SRT. What you paste or upload stays in your browser.

Convert your subtitle file

How to use it

  1. Paste the subtitle text, or upload a .srt or .vtt file.
  2. Click Convert. Text that starts with WEBVTT is converted to SRT; anything else is read as SRT and converted to WebVTT.
  3. Download the result or copy it. The file is named subtitles.vtt or subtitles.srt, so rename it to match your video if you need to.

What changes in the file

  • SRT to WebVTT: a WEBVTT line is added at the top and 00:00:01,000 becomes 00:00:01.000. The cue text is copied unchanged, so i, b and u tags keep working.
  • WebVTT to SRT: the header, NOTE, STYLE and REGION blocks and cue settings such as position and align are dropped. Tags other than i, b and u are removed, and a voice tag takes the speaker name with it.
  • Cues are renumbered from 1 either way, and a short WebVTT time such as 01:02.500 is written in full as 00:01:02,500.
  • Uploaded files are read as UTF-8. If letters come out garbled, the file was probably saved in an older encoding; convert it with the subtitle encoding converter first.
